Y3-6: Design Thinking Workshop (Project topic: Tackling the Problem of Food Waste- how can we help?)
Have you ever considered all the different ways that food goes to waste? Food that could otherwise go to hungry people gets lost in many other places. In this workshop, we will walk you through the life cycle of food- from farm to landfill and we will be brainstorming, ideate, prototype and test the solutions we come up with to try to help reduce food waste so that ultimately, more people in hunger can get food.
The Design Thinking Workshop is designed to guide children through the Stanford d.school Design Thinking process to collaboratively work together to solve a real-world problem. Teaching young students design thinking helps them develop a growth mindset and important problem solving, analytical and spatial thinking skills.
In small groups, our learning facilitator who is also the subject matter expert for the workshop topic will guide the children through the 5 stages design thinking process.
- Empathise
- Define
- Ideate
- Prototype
- Test
During the workshop, children will learn about various critical thinking, problem-solving, and ideation techniques commonly used in the corporate world, they will also be encouraged to apply the techniques collaboratively to solve the topic problem. At the end of the workshop, each group will present their prototype and solution to the facilitators and other children in the workshop. Feedback will be given to each group to recognise children's achievement and help them further refine and improve their prototype.

Y3-6: Young Investigative Journalist Workshop (coached by professional journalist and writer)
What exactly is Journalism, Investigative reporting, breaking news?
How do you know you’ve investigated properly or not?
When do you know the story is complete or the mystery is solved?
Join us in this fun and fascinating workshop to take your communication, analytical and critical thinking skills to next level! Throughout this learning day the kids will learn how to craft investigative question, learn how to retell stories, become experts in the 5w’s who, what, when, where, and why, solve a real-life diamonds heist, learn how to spot clues in all sorts of journalistic stories and so much more.
- Learn what journalism is and what its uses are after which they will become their own journalists in writing and public speaking broadcast journalism. They will then read some current news stories after which they will then draft their own.
- Next, they will go through a series of tasks that involve fact collecting, critical problem-solving, and learning not just what questions they should ask, but how to ask them. They will work together in pairs to complete each task.
- Third, they’ll interview each other and play various games which will help them in the last task of the day. While they decipher clues through each lesson.
- We will be solving exciting cases together as a team of young investigative journalists!
- After they solve it, they will then be rewarded private investigator badges.
Creative Drama workshop (small group)
K-2: Creative Drama program - Twisted Fairy Tale (animal series) - "The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig"
With the reversal of roles in this twisted fractured fairy tale, the three little wolves go out into the world and build themselves a house. But the Big Bad Pig has other ideas as he destroys each house that the three little wolves build, and the Big Bad Pig holds nothing back during his demolishing tactics. Will the three little wolves ever build a house that is Big Bad Pig proof? Join us to read, discuss and act out this interesting twist on the well-known story of "The Three Little Pigs" and learn a perspective change and altering the roles of the characters. Fantastic vocabulary, plot prediction, character analysis and even a subtle moral about finding friendship at the ending of the story really makes this book a wonderful text to enhance children's creative literacy. Reader's theatre, chorus reading and role play! Join us to turn this amazing story into an interesting and lively show!
To ensure the high quality of the workshop and learning outcome, we control the class size within a maximum of 8 children. If we have more than 8 children enrolled, we will have 2 facilitators and the same ratio will be maintained.
K-2: Creative Drama program - Emotions and Feelings ( "Where the wild things are" by Maurice Sandek)
In the creative drama programs, children will be guided to share stories, create and act using their arts. Activities will nurture and enhance each child’s ability to communicate their ideas and feelings. Through movement-based storytelling and guided imagination play, children will build spatial awareness and physical control. Creative Drama is a great way to develop children's emotional intelligence as children comprehend, empathise, evaluate and express emotions through different scenes and role-playing. Their creative and critical thinking skills will blossom as they play and explore with their friends!
To ensure the high quality of the workshop and learning outcome, we control the class size within maximum 8 children. If we have more than 8 children enrolled, we will have 2 facilitators and the same ratio will be maintained.
Our well planned and structured program features the following elements:
Drama games: Brain Dance
Guided Imagery - themes, scenes
Play a Story
Create a Story
Read it/Tell it/Act it
Drama Games
Free Imagination Play
Poetry and Proverbs
K-2: Creative Drama- books by Julia Donaldson
(These tickets are selling fast and we are opening registration for the second group on 30 June!)
A great story provides a never-ending, rich source of the script for children’s drama programs. Stories allow children to enter their imaginations, become innovators, and fully participate in the crafting of a performance piece.
This holiday, we will take children to immerse into the world of books by Julia Donaldson. Julia Donaldson’s books hold a special place in each kid’s library. Her books are always loved by young kids and parents. The rhythmic sentences and beautiful illustrations make her books different, which kids love to listen to and read. We feel that her books have a way with kids that grab their ever-fleeting attention and make them want to read and listen. You will be amazed to see how much children get to fully comprehend and enjoy the book through storytelling and acting out in a way that is engaging, fun and unforgettable!
To ensure the high quality of the workshop and learning outcome, we control the class size within a maximum of 8 children. If we have more than 8 children enrolled, we will have 2 facilitators and the same ratio will be maintained.
K-2: Creative Drama- Create/Tell/Act
(Another popular workshop!)
From poem reading to creating new characters, plots and new ending of the story, children will have so much creativity to bring into the story and make it alive! Children will be guided to work on creating the alternative plots and ending for one of our classic tales, share the story and act them out!
Let's find out if Goldilocks ever returns to Three Bear's cottage and what would happen when she goes back?
The Tortoise and the Hare will be running another race and what would they do differently this time?
How would the story end, if Little Red Riding Hood didn't tell the Wolf where her Granny lives in the forest?
Y3-6: Drama techniques- Characters and Emotions (coached by professional actor!)
A great one-day drama workshop for beginner drama performers! Guided and supported by experienced drama tutors, students will learn to create characters, objectives, express emotions and interact with other characters and have fun with role-playing and acting!
Various drama scenes (settings) and role-plays will be used to teach and reinforce important drama concepts and techniques such as proper physicalisation, proper vocalisation, active listening and creating characters and expressing emotions through “show not tell” techniques (which is an important skill in creative writing!) Children will be acting out a short Shakespeare play script together as a group.
To ensure the high quality of the workshop and learning outcome, we control the class size within a maximum of 8 children. If we have more than 8 children enrolled, we will have 2 facilitators and the same ratio will be maintained.
Why is learning drama important for children's development of essential skills? Check out this helpful article here.
Y3-6: Creative Writing Workshop (coached by professional writer and journalist)
Throughout this full learning day, the kids will unlock their inner author and become expert storytellers, writers, and Literary experts. They will learn several writing tips and tricks from some of the best writers in the world, from this century and the last. We will read and decipher as a group all types of literary work. This includes everything from novels and short stories to poetry and speeches, even fairytales. After learning from some of the greats, students will then be given the opportunity to draft and create their own stories individually and in pairs. They’ll be able to deconstruct, rewrite, and even change some of their favourite novels, fairytales and movie plots.
STEAM/LEGO WeDo Robotics Programs
K-2: LEGO WeDo Introduction to Robotics
In this one day workshop, students will be introduced to an interesting topic or problem for discussion then followed by guidance and support to build, program and test the model. At the end of the day, they will certainly feel proud of helping others to solve problems using robotics and coding skills!
Learning experience:

- Introduces building and coding using the Light Block.
This workshop will be running on two separate days and each day students will be involved in making different mini robotic LEGO model.
Y3-6: LEGO WeDo Science Rover
Scientists and engineers have always challenged themselves to explore remote places and make new discoveries. To succeed in this journey, they have designed spacecraft, rovers, satellites, and robots to help them see and collect data about these new places.
Use the following ideas to start thinking like a scientist:
- Scientists send rovers to Mars.
- They use submarines in water.
- They fly drones into volcanoes.
In this one-day holiday workshop, we will be looking into the challenges that scientists and engineers want to solve. With proper resources and commitment, we will develop prototypes as possible solutions and ultimately choose the best option. Guiding questions/problems include:
- What do scientists and engineers do when they cannot go where they want to explore?
- How is the use of science instruments important to the task scientists have to do?
- Why is communication between a rover and the base important?
- What are some ways you might communicate with rovers?
3D Design and Printing + STEAM Learning Programs
K-2: STEM & 3D Design - Colourful Bubble and Create your own 3D Bubble Wand
In this lesson, students learn that bubbles have colours in them because the light is reflected off the soapy walls at different angles. Students learn about bubbles and light by designing and printing a custom bubble wand. I wonder which shape might make the most interesting bubbles or the biggest one? Does the size and thickness of the hole shape change the size of bubbles? Come and join us for this exciting program exploring STEM, 3D Design and print!
For safety reason, the teacher will demonstrate how the 3D printer operates and children will be able to watch, participate and ask questions, but not be directly involved in operating the printer. Students' 3D design work will be exported and sent off for print and will be available for pickup or postage within a weeks time!
Y3-6: Makers Empire - 3D Design Ultimate Maze Challenge
Makers Empire 3D Design Program brings students' design thinking and problem-solving skills to the next level. Students will produce designed solutions by selecting and manipulating a range of materials, systems, components tools creatively, competently, and safely. Building a 3D maze is a great way for students to explore spatial concepts, solve problems and build structures within the design constraints provided. It is an ideal design challenge to adapt to different age groups and ability levels. You might even be able to design traps, platform or even Zoombies! Make it as interesting as it can be!
Y3-6: Makers Empire - 3D Design & Printing "100 Block Challenge"
Love to print something you create in a 3D form? Always amazed by a 3D printer that prints incredible things from small household items to a two-storey house? Join us in this fun-filled one-day workshop to learn how to turn your creative ideas into something magnificent and real! Students have the choice of designing their own board game character piece, a fidget spinner, or a decoration piece for your house - you get to receive your 3D design & print stuff on your hands!
Students will get to see how 3D printer works (for real!) and be greatly inspired by how technology is and can be used to develop solutions in real-world contexts. Great introductory workshop for fans of 3D Design and print!
