Program Description

A great character description creates an instant vivid picture in a reader's mind. In Term 4 Creative Writing classes, we will dive deep into the fun of character creation, point of view, biography, and creating journal entry from the character's perspective! The Character Profile encourages students to create their own character while experimenting with different technical and creative writing techniques, including narrative voice and point-of-view. In the first three weeks, students will be guided to blend an expository and narrative writing style, outlining the appearance, psychology, and personality of their character, which will provide a biographical foundation for the weeks to follow. In week 4, students will be introduced to diary writing and first-person point-of-view through planning and writing journal entries from their character’s unique perspective. Students will then have the chance to think deeper about character motivation in week 6 as they consider their character’s response to a series of events. By the end of the program, students will have developed a detailed Character Profile and journal, having engaged in an array of creative writing styles. Throughout the term the students will build up and write the story on an online book creator platform which gives the students the opportunity to present and publish their own multimedia book and share with their friends and families!
