Does your child love fantasy adventure stories? Engaging with fantasy books are a wonderful way to inspire children's creative thinking and motivate them to learn more vocabulary. Join us every Wednesday afternoon at Online Book Club as we dive into the most fascinating and amazing world of stories! In Term 4, we will be reading the adapted short classic "The Wonderful Wizard of OZ" - a superb adaptation of Dorothy's adventures for newly independent readers by Mary Sebag-Montefiore. This book creates that wonderful, magical sense that children love. Ready to be transported into the realm of dreams and whimsy? Join us and enjoy Dorothy's journey in OZ, as she travels along the yellow brick road with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion, before coming safely home again! Book clubs create space for children to talk, ask questions, and interact with peers on a level that other reading groups in school or at home often can’t. These discussions are facilitated by NPE Learning Facilitator and presented in a way that is accessible for children and gives them the space to uncover the story independently and as a team. While many children at this age are already reading for pleasure, they typically haven’t started to explore texts fully. In NPE’s weekly book club, we introduce five main story elements such as characters, setting, problems, events, and solutions. However, understanding a book deeply goes beyond identifying these elements. Book clubs delve into themes, characters’ motivations, language features and more so that students both understand an author’s purpose and begin to form their opinions. Literary analysis also expands a child’s ability to state their ideas using new language and develops conversation skills.
