Program Description

Do you love action, adventure, and fantasy? Does your imagination run wild most of the time? NPE’s latest online Book Club is the perfect program for you! In Term 3 we will be reading an incredible kids' fantasy book "Wings of Fire"- The Dragonet Prophecy. Let's follow these dragonets through a series of amazing adventures- friendship, prejudice, sacrifice...The book has well-developed characters, a great plot and deeper themes with many twists and surprises! At the Book Club, you will dive deep into the fascinating world of books, at the same time sharpening crucial literary analysis and reading comprehension skills. Book clubs create space for children to talk, ask questions, and interact with peers on a level that other reading groups in school or at home often can’t. These discussions are facilitated by NPE Learning Facilitator and presented in a way that is accessible for children and gives them the space to uncover the story independently and as a team. Each week before class students will read between 1 and 3 chapters. Then as a group we’ll meet and discuss what we’ve all read. We will also examine a few selected paragraphs for literary analysis and reading comprehension in the class. The weekly class will include book quizzes, group work which will include character explanations, summarisation and critical literary analysis. And lastly a short writing or sharing exercise linked or relating to the chapters, plot points, and in some cases deep literary meaning. About the Book Club Learning Facilitator: Cassie is an experienced writer and artist, and professionally has worked a number of years as a creative workshop facilitator. Her favourite part of any creative pursuit is character creation and weaving intricate, rich fantasy worlds. She is both an avid reader and writer of stories, and is passionate about creative literature and the infinite possibilities that surround it. She loves working with young people in encouraging their imaginations to bloom, and in building their confidence in creative problem-solving within their stories. She believes strongly that learning should be fun and accessible for all, and enjoys employing versatile and educational creative methods when it comes to teaching. She hopes to foster the love of storytelling in young people and create a new generation of readers, writers and creators.
