Creative Writing Workshop for Stage 4 (suitable for Year 7-8) In this term students will examine the various genres of narrative writing and learn to apply the techniques of each to their own writing. In each unit, students will learn to identify the defining characteristics of the genre and practice incorporating the stylistic choice of each into their own writing. The end of the term will culminate with the production of a short story in one of studied genres. Classes are designed to support 3-4 students per group each week. It serves as the perfect blend between maximizing classroom interaction and peer-to-peer learning opportunities. Learning goals and strategies are tailored to each class to improve students' writing skills. Using a student-centred instructional model, our teachers collaborate with students to scaffold their learning and eliminate any gaps in understanding. Advanced students are also challenged at their own pace. Fifteen weeks' Scope and Sequence for Term 3: Weeks 1: Genre Week 2-4: Suspense Week 5-7: Sci-Fi/Fantasy Week 8-10: Narrative non-fiction Two weeks school holiday break Week 11-12: Comedy Week 13-15: Final Project Our students are guided to read, comprehend, analyse, and evaluate texts from classical stories and masterpieces. Students are encouraged to adapt their knowledge to rewrite their favourites or create their own stories after learning from the masters. Students will be assigned a writing challenge each week to apply their learning and sharpen their writing skills.
