Term 1 Online Holiday Program for Curious Explorers (suitable for 6-8 years old)

Create Your Own Comic (11-12 April, 9:00-10:00 am)

Using Roald Dahl's classic book as a springboard, we'll explore comic book creation during two one-hour sessions packed with fun and creativity.  Learning outcomes:

• Uncover the main ideas of a story
• Illustrate the most pivotal scenes
• Create our very own comic using thought bubbles and impressive graphics!

Outstanding Opinions (13-14 April, 9:00-10:00am)

The two skill-building sessions will dive into Phillip Bunting's 'Wonderful World of Ants' and Sheena Knowles 'Edward the Emu' to examine the power of persuasion. Learning outcomes:

• Describe our opinions strongly and convincingly.
• Utilize persuasive strategies and techniques.
• Take into account various perspectives.
• Defend our arguments.
• Engage in exciting debates!

Creative Storytelling and writing with LEGO (19-20 April, 9:00-10:00 am)

Including LEGO in our storytelling adventure is a great way to bring children's imagination to life. In these two storytelling and creative writing session, students will be able to build their own setting, characters and bring the story they created to life! They will also be brainstorming story ideas, retelling and finally turning their LEGO project into a creative story in writing! Learning outcomes:

• Create setting, characters and bring them to life through building the story in LEGO (or other bricks)
• Story ideas brainstorming and retelling through LEGO bricks
• Harnessing creativity in written and spoken form
• Develop super sentences filled with adjectives and imagery to spice up our writing

Poetry Writing 101 (21-22 April, 9:00-10:00am)

This two-hour workshop will focus on the beauty of poetry, in particular, Isabella's Garden by Glenda Millard.  Learning outcomes:

• Construct emotive descriptive writing based on our senses.
• Conjure up a mental image for the readers
• Use rhyming, repetition, adjectives, and figurative language to paint a vivid picture of an environment
• Create our very own poem!

Amazing World of Minibeasts (11-12 April, 4:00-5:00 pm)

Do you know how many types of bugs are there in bugs "family tree"?  Do you know why butterflies have colours that stand out instead of camorflourage? When it comes to the minibeasts, the list could go on and on...Join us to explore the amazing world of minibeasts, and apply the inspiration to create a creepy crawly campsite or a bee hotel!

Wonders of the Ocean Animals (13-14 April, 4:00-5:00pm)

Do you know how fish swim? What is the fastest ocean animal? Join us for this two one-hour session online, to explore the ocrean animals and their special features for living under water! We will then build an engineering model that could "swim" in the water.

Weird Weather (21-22 April, 4:00-5:00 pm)

Ever wondered why there are different types of weather conditions? Join us to explore the science behind different types of weather through science experiemnt and model building! You might even get to learn the tips of how human and animals predict the changes in weather.
